Settling in.

Hello on this Hawaii Monday! Here's a wee update on the first few days and photos of the Volcom Pipe Pro happening on North Shore right now. We went yesterday and I got a few awe worthy photos!

this is a couple of guys on their way in... the power and speed of that water is AMAZING.

On home:

I've been in Hawaii for 2 nights now. My little brother Cody and his roommate Phil have generously opened their home to me while I'm on this journey. It's a roomy 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment above a garage. I'm sincere when I say roomy and I'm grateful when I say above the garage. From the living room you can see the ocean and from the bedroom you can see the mountains. This is the happiest I've ever been to share a bathroom with two men and a first to share a bedroom with two men (sounds so scandalous, it's definitely not).

You can hear the ocean waves crashing from here. Need I say anything more?

I woke up this morning to Phil snoring and the roosters crowing at 3:30 am. There are chickens and roosters EVERYWHERE on the island and the crowing is a 24-7 kind of thing. One starts and then the next as if they all want to be heard and they all want their cock-a-doodle-do to matter. I can understand that. I'm hoping that as I get settled in I will hear them as part of the background noise.

Before I came Cody said I could sleep on the floor between him and Phil. The reality is much less severe than the photo I had in my head. I could just see one of them needing to get up to pee in the middle of the night and tripping over me or forgetting I was there and stepping right on my head just like Ned does. I have a feeling sleeping on an air mattress for more than a weekend is going to come with some good stories.

On locals:

I am my father's daughter. I make small talk with strangers. It's almost a sickness really. Walking on the beach I ask if the fish are biting and before I can even complete the sentence they say NO as if their lives depend on it (and maybe their livelihood does). I'm certain they think I'm going to come and steal their fishing spot. Yeap, can't you just see me pulling a telescoping fishing pole out of my bathing suit and plopping down next to them. Little do they know, they're safe as it's ever going to get with me. Fishing is not on my list of life loves.

On food:

I'm finding it near impossible to find organic veggies here and I'm grateful that I splurged to pay the fee (which was nearly as much as my plane ticket) to get my suitcase of my favorite organic staples and my super handy dandy bella cucina blender here. They're all saving me and making it really easy to stick to my plan of eating simply--- nothing from a box, nothing processed while I'm here. Wed/ Thursday this week I'll take the bus to the farmers market and see if I can find some decent produce.

Wondering what was in the suit case?

beans... several kinds of lentils, black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans all in mason jars (my fave way to store things lately)

grains... amaranth, quinoa, millet

spices...cinnamon, Himalayan salt, black pepper, cumin, coriander, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom
I kind of sound like I came over on a boat like an early traveler... packing my prized grains and spices. ha! Ok let me modern it up for ya... I also brought my bella cucina blender (my fave for smoothie making lately), olive oil, maple syrup, agave necter, braggs liquid aminos, hemp seeds, cacao nibs and powder, mint tea and my fave brown rice, barley and daikon radish seeds blend (from Trader Joes).

I hope you're off to a wonderful start this week! I'm off to snorkel across the street and then back home for coaching calls.

From Baby Seal to Navy Seal

Serious counting down now... it's Thursday and I fly in two more wake ups. Cliff says this trip is like bootcamp for our marriage. I agree. I've run the gamut of emotions. There were big alligator tears last night as we laid in bed talking about what it will be like-- about missing each other. About loneliness and the difference between being alone and being with yourself. Sweet realizations too that to truly be together you have to be ok with being alone.

The being alone part is a first in my adult life. So this is my journey and I'm embracing it fully. I'll go to the rock in the middle of the ocean and sit in the sand. I'll read books. I'll hike. I'll let peace rush in. And when the time comes that peace fills my body, mind and spirit so completely that longing has no place to live I'll know it's time to come home.

The week ahead.

This week is a BIG one.

Tomorrow is my birthday! The big 33. And I gotta tell ya, age has never meant so little. I literally have zero response to the number though odd years tend to be great ones in my life. I am excited about a day dedicated to me. Birthdays have always been really big in my family and even though as we've gotten older they are less of a big deal I still maintain that they're huge. :)

Wednesday is the first call for New Year, New You! I love call 1, it's all beginning and they have no idea how subtly, massively, lovingly their lives are about to change in the best of ways. Just ask this first group... Lisa and I talk weekly about the amazing changes we've seen in our group and how exciting it is to be a part of each journey.

Thursday Cliff flys to San Diego for a BIG EXCITING job interview.

Friday I make sure my bags are ready, tie up all the loose ends, kiss Cliff and Ned a million gillion times and
Saturday I FLY to my new home on Oahu!

Safe to say that so far this is my favorite week of 2012!

Radical.

This is the year of nourish and with it some radical change is coming. Radical meaning dramatic and radical in the 80's sense meaning totally awesome.

I'm embarking on a journey.
I'm packing light (which is new).
I'm planning to sleep on the floor for a month or two (also new).
I'm buying a one way ticket (new again).
I'm going alone (you get it by now, all this is new, new, new).

I'm headed out on an adventure to Hawaii! To do some good work. To create space. To go with the flow of my life. To spend time with my kind of nature- sand and sea, mountains to climb and paths to walk down barefoot. To warm up! Oh how I am cold to my bones and I know it's not even really truly cold here. No, I'm not having a crisis (though I can see how you'd think so). I am clearer then I've ever been. I could see myself walking on that plane with my bag before I ever had the words to say out loud.

The universe has been sending me all kinds of little thumbs up lately. I love it when these kinds of things reveal themselves! It always makes me think of Fools Rush In and how the 'signs are everywhere' (hot dog stand anyone? No, just me with the B movie/ romantic comedies?)!

What I know is that life is now. You get to make a choice how you live it each and every day. I'm listening to the whisper inside. I'm brave. I'm open. I'm inspired. I'm equipped.

My work goes where I go so why not--- I can take coaching calls from the beach and actually I plan to! As my own walking, talking billboard I've created an authentic life. I'm always saying how badly I want to live at the beach and so now instead of just saying it, I'm doing it. I'll be living RIGHT across the street from the beach! It makes me giddy actually. The power to create the life you you want live is at your fingertips, in your heart and in every word you speak.

I'll be spending some time in the Hawaiian country. Time to experience culture and community. Time to live more simply. Time to fill the well and gather up inspiration for what comes next for Campaign for Confidence and for health coaching and beyond!

Cliff is on board 100 percent. He's looking forward to the time too. Time for him to work on writing his book. Time for us to remember who we are as the people on the other side of the '&.' Yes we're married but we don't breathe from the same lung. Admittedly, I forget that from time-to-time. This will be an excellent reminder of who we are, who we want to be, what we see for the future and how it all fits together. Like a marriage cleanse with wonderfully long email love letters on what we're experiencing.

My big ole jet plane takes off January 28th.
I'll be posting updates on my adventure each week! I am excited to document the journey here and share it with you.

Counting down.

Ready to start fresh?

We're on the countdown til our next Level 1 Group Coaching Session. It begins Jan 25th (ahem- the day after my bday) :) I was talking to a girl about coaching yesterday and she said 'well you sound confident enough for the both of us.' It made me smile ear-to-ear. I am. I am finally, finally at a place in my life where I LOVE the work I do. It was a long and well traveled road and I'm happy to be on the path. Courage.

Martin Luther King, Jr had courage in bucket loads. The work he did for racial equality took so much love and bravery. After seeing The Help and sobbing through parts of it I was reminded once again what huge mountain he had to climb for what is right.

As you go through today (maybe you're even off work- yay!) consider reflecting on your own courage. Is there a fear big or small that's keeping you from your authentic life? Facing your fears means looking at them honestly and taking it one step at a time. ANY fear can be overcome with truth, love and due diligence (spoken from a girl who's worked hard to face her fears and come out the other side). Speak truth. Be 100% honest with yourself and fill in any gaps with love. Love is the sweet filling that makes all things possible.

Remember all the things that you've already accomplished. Sometimes in the face of a biggie you need only remember the things you've made it through before. For me it's always my big surgery, having my chin sewn to my chest for a very long week and IV after IV. If I can do that, I can do anything. It's climbing Olomana. It's the way I felt after hours of climbing that mountain and coming face-to-face with that huge final rock wall and getting to the top of it.

Martin Luther King, Jr clearly had passion. If you don't know what your passion is that's ok. Start with the things in your life that are important to you. What would you be willing to stand up for? What gives your life meaning? I betcha you can instantly list off the people or little fur face loves that are important to you.

You are mighty! I believe in you. May your courage envelop you and lead you to a very BIG life!

Oh you CANCAN

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas I did the CANCAN Cleanse and fell in love! It's a 3-day mini cleanse. You get three bags of jars filled with your cleanse treats. 8 jars per day with juices, teas, AN AMAZING SOUP at lunch and a truly yummy nut milk for evening.

The cleanse is meant to give your body a break from stress and toxins that can build up from everyday life. It's of course ORGANIC which is a must and you can tell it's all made with love which goes a long way in my book.

I loved the predictable times and that I could carry the jars around with me. I set an alarm on my phone for the three days to go off 10 mins before each "meal time." In the midst of a very busy holiday it was one thing I didn't have to think about and that was incredible. When the three days was over I wanted to do it for three more! Now that's saying something!

The response to Campaign for Confidence has been wildly warm and positive. As with any campaign there is of course both sides and a recent conversation left me wondering, it it too much to ask women to get naked for confidence? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The experience of shedding your clothing layers and dawning fruit is powerful! Yes it will make you smile and giggle which is an added bonus but it will also make you feel some amazing things... At first you feel like OH---- WHY AM I DOING THIS? WOW- I didn't realize it was this cold in here. and then you arrange your fruit or veggies and the first photo is taken. Ok- I'm breathing. I'm naked and she's taking pictures of me. And then another photo and then something happens. You're present. Your shoulders relax, the fruit and vege falls perfectly into place and for a moment
you feel beautiful.
You feel powerful.
You feel completely in your skin.
Now you're turning your head like a super model, chin up, chin down, little smirk, big smile... you've got it. And then it's done. We've got the photo. You look stunning and you're not ready for it to end. Your whole energy has changed from the moment you first walked in. You're lighter now. You're sure of yourself. You beam with pride! I did it! Who knew I'd do something like this. But I DID IT! Because by now you've realized how authentic it was. How beautiful you felt and how you're changed from having gone from naked and vulnerable to powerful in your own skin.

This is a ride you want to get on.

MisAdventures

Last week Cliff and I set out on a midnight adventure to see the Quantrantid Meteor Shower. We drove away from town and above the city lights, put the top down on the Smart Car and then with our heads back and mouths open (really is there any other way) we stared into the sky watching and waiting. The moon was phenomenal and six fingers under the moon was Jupiter shining so brightly. From the binoculars you could see that it is brilliant blue.

We didn't see the meteor shower but there's something just as magic about having someone to go on midnight adventures with and sit in the cold staring out into the night.
It was a moment.
A really good one.

Mix Tape

Lately I'm so moved by music, like---- teenage moved. Life is in transition. Projects are swirling overhead and everything feels possible. I'm in my stride. I'm inspired. I'm creating. I'm writing. I'm grateful. Music is the thing that gets it, that's already been there and done that. These are among the faves on my playlist at the moment.

This marks my 5th year with a word set as my intention and little touch stone to come back to and begin again throughout the year. In yoga when you lose your breath, you take child's pose to come back. My word will be my forehead on the mat, breath in and out of my body, the slow and steady gaze at what truly matters.

2012 will be the year of Nourish.

I like that it's an ish word. That was one of my favorite things I noticed when I first moved to California, people here say 'ish' a lot. So this year, I'm having an ish year which I think insinuates a little flexibility and we could all use some of that!

Verb:

Provide with substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition.

This year I'll nourish my body, mind and spirit. I'll eat life giving foods, drink more green juice and listen to my body. I'll keep growing and learning and surrounding myself with people that inspire me. I'll nourish my clients with support, empathy and information. I'll nourish my relationships so they can continue to grow. I'll nourish the Campaign for Confidence, keep spreading the word and doing the work. I'll nourish the life-long calling to live near sand and sea as we move to San Diego and begin a new chapter. I'll nourish my need to simplify as we downsize to a smaller home. I'll nourish my body with beach walks, beach jogs and yoga. And I betcha 2012 nourishes me right back with open arms, adventures, dreams becoming reality, travel, abundance, a spot on the Ellen show to talk about Campaign for Confidence, the perfect cozy-clean-accepts cats- 2 bedroom cottage near the beach (doing a little creation here :), a job Cliff loves and a deep feeling that all is right, it's all unfolding as it's meant to, that the best is now and the best is yet to come.

A year of moments.

I'm wrapping up 2011 to move forward into tomorrow. 2011 was the year of lighten and the word perfectly embodied the desires, sentiments and now accomplishments of this year. These past few days of 2011 I've still been in lighten mode. I'm cleaning the nest, packing boxes, making trips to GoodWill and using trusty Craigslist to sell off some things. We're making way for what's next in 2012.

2012 is going to be something special. At 32 I've found my passion and the word is getting out. My love project, Campaign for Confidence is growing and I'm so excited to see what 2012 will hold for it... growth in exponents, 1,000 women to join the campaign, a spot on the Ellen show (will you help with this one?) to share the message that healthy eating leads to loving your body and that it's time we stand for confidence and veggies!

I've been looking through photos from the year (sidebar--- I'm totally frustrated with iphoto and really wanting a better way to archive and file my photos without using an online resource, any suggestions???). As I've been looking through photos I'm thinking about the moments of 2011 and thought I'd write the most memorable down.

Here are some of my favorite 2011 moments and a few of the photos that remind me of them.

Breathe Yoga Studio. A job well done. Jennifer and our first table time. The belief in that project and the power of the collective yoga community. The amazing people I've met there and how they've changed my life in the most unexpected and best ways. How it all grew from the foundation. Gratitude. Ending of one chapter and the beginning of the next. Roots and wings.

Lacylike Herbal. Having an idea and making it happen. All that it's taught me, clarity on what I really want to do. Angeles and her talent. Getting to spend time with her and her love. The sweet notes of thanks they left. The energy we share and how easy it is to work together. Her art. Her pure heart. How much I adored it the first time I saw it and what it means to me now as we create together for my new website and what will be in 2012. Dreams come true.

The best sandwich I've ever made. The best sandwich I've ever had. Seriously it makes the list and it makes me want to go back to eating cheese, lots and lots of cheese. Homemade bread sliced and toasted then spread with pesto. Burrata cheese, fresh basil, heirloom tomatoes, black olives and a splash of balsamic vinegar.

Hawaii. The vacation that changed everything. Climbing Olomana. My little brother stoked in his element. Our Sherpa. The best night of sleep I'd had in a very long time. Time and space away. The soul elixir that travel is for me and Cliff. The connection and re-connection with my love.

Lisa Thiele. The photo shoot that lead to our group health coaching classes. How aligned we are and the boost I feel after spending time with her. Magic. Tuesday coaching and Wednesday meetings. Time to unwind, de brief, connect, plan, dream, write on huge note pads, divide and conquer, ask and people say yes. The power of creation and the love of two women on a mission for good.

Minnesota. The Creative Connection. Lizzy. Bed drops.

The Florida sunsets. Gifts of clarity in a trade show. The desire to help women. The There You Are story.

Three months alcohol free! Cleanse. Lighten. Connection. Meditation. Herbal tea. Lots of herbal tea.

Cliff and The Hinge. Cliff and his iPad. How much he loves them both. That he's used to and willingly participates in my taking photos anytime, anyplace of anything. That he's my partner in every sense of the word. That we work on our marriage. That we work on ourselves.

Campaign for Confidence. My brilliant friends who always believe in me. Anthony for giving me the tools. Tim and Michele who have seen me through all kinds of transition. Maria and Mark at tobeadored photography. When I showed up at their house with two bags of produce and proclaimed I wanted to take nude head shots with veggies and their responses. So much good has happened because of their presence in my life.

Boston and the good things that come from there. Leigh, always Leigh. People who get me. Strangers becoming friends all because of a girl with an exceptional amount of magic in her fingertips and love in her heart. Cooking up love and green juice. Taking campaign photos of Lizzy and Molly. Plum Island. Marmalade Christmas Party. That sweet comfy little bed.

Ned. Any moment with Ned even when he puts his head in the lamp shade. The loving constant that he is in my life. Even now as I type he's all cuddled up and snoring next to me. Oh those little sighs kill me.

Each and every time we've gotten in the car for a getaway, a drive and a trip to the beach. Each wriggle of my toes in the sand. Each wave that's chased me in to the shore. Every single beach moment.

Kallie's laughter making coconut milk whipped cream. That she and Raquel came back on their way home to drink more green juice and eat more good food and spend more time near us.

Christmas with my family. My beautiful growing family. Cliff's first time to have Christmas in Texas! My mom's comfy home and the best gift ever, a quilt that my great grandmother made. Elite Access. CliffTech straps for everyone! Meeting the little ones. Brian and Derrick practicing sobriety tests. The family scavenger hunt. Juicing with the family. Sheesh finding juicing this year and what it's meant in our house and to our health. Cliff going off high BP and cholesterol meds. Amazing.

Tomorrow, a new year, a new word new moments waiting to be experienced.

I'm writing curriculum for new eCourses and Group Health Coaching Sessions that are making me giddy.

A weekend road trip to San Luis Obispo has me left feeling renewed. And though I took my big girl camera I documented the entire trip on my iPhone. Completely freeing.

I still love the way people smile when they see the Smart Car. Little makes people big happy. I'm considering exploring that in the coming weeks. Operation little in prep for the new year. Less stuff. More happy.

Cliff and I are very into lighting at the moment. We're talking about creating a chandelier together very soon. It will be a first for both of us.

I'm on day 1 of the CANCAN Cleanse and I've been singing Moulin Rouge if you CAN CAN CAN all day!

Got re- CPR Certified today with Cliff :) We can totally save your life!

Between the CPR class, the cleanse and talking with phone clients the day has ZOOMED right on by.

Status Update

Last night before bed I got a message that the Thriving Through the Holidays Group Health Coaching session is changing one gals life in the best of ways and she is so glad to be a part of it. This is why I do this work.

This morning I woke up to Ned purring right in my face. His fur was all soft and cold and as he plopped down in my arms for the millionth time it felt just as special as the first time. I love those moments.

I received an email from my mom titled, "I'm a Juicer!" Another person (especially my mamma) finding the feel good joy of juice makes me glow from the inside out.

My little sister has affirmations D O W N and sent me the most beautiful email on her affirmations. I'm left feeling grateful for my life and the power we have to create.

This morning I received another Campaign for Confidence submission. Each time I see an email titled Campaign for Confidence I squeal inside, my nose gets all peppery like I'll cry and sometimes after reading their words I do.

At the moment my status is happy. content. grateful.

Plum Island

One day soon I will live a life on the beach! I've said it my entire life, I want to live at the beach. As it is now I live about 45 minutes from the coast and it's too far away. We don't get there near enough (in my mind) but when we do it's ultimate peace. After last week and the journey to Boston and back I learned and was reminded of so very much about me, about life and that it's actually NOW! I love travel for that very reason!

I've rearranged the cabinets and the fine china that I've used twice in 11 years is now getting used EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. The good silver and crystal too. No more waiting for special occasions. Every day is a special occasion! It's almost unbelievable and certainly comical what it's taken to get me to FULLY live my very best life.

My relationship with food is at an all time high. The launch of Campaign for Confidence (send in your photos today!) has been one big love project and constant affirmation that I am on the right path. What's left are the details and my details involve sand under foot and a home full of things I love from the dishes and linens to my sweet fur face, Ned and partner, Cliff.

Life is now. I plan to live it.

Hello, hello and happy Monday!

Campaign for Confidence is being received with tremendous support and love. Friday night tobeadored hosted the first Campaign photo shoot and and we had a blast! The best part of the night was a conversation I had with two gals who were initially reluctant to bare all but then decided to give it a go and had a really freeing experience. We talked about size, about eating, about nourishment, about how women are portrayed in the media, about how to dress your body, about the power of feeling confident in your body. IT WAS AMAZING! I love the conversations that are happening as a result of this campaign. I love that women are going to grocery stores and looking at veggies in a whole new light. ; )

I've set a goal of having 1,000 women join the campaign by submitting their photos and I'm looking for ambassadors to join me in being head of the veggies ladies! Do you believe in the message that healthy eating leads to loving your body? Do you love your body or really, really want to? Would you be willing to gather up some of your girlfriends and host a night for the campaign? It can be as simple as an iPhone, a few girlfriends and a few veggies! I'd love to see Campaign for Confidence nights being hosted all over the world! Your party can be big or small, with women 18 to 108! I guarantee it will bring your friendships to a whole new level with potential for laughter and meaningful conversations on body image, on being a women, on everything from A-Z.

I am working on sweet little thank you gifts (hint: it will be something from my herbal line) for ambassadors who submit 10 or more photos at a time.

Un-corked

The past two Sundays I've been creating a cork door mat. I made one ages ago that now lives under our garden gate. It was a great first run but was too small and leaves, dirt, etc got stuck between the corks forcing some to stick out and break off. Mema just sent me a box of goodies and in it was a bunch of corks. They inspired me to give making a door mat another go!

Start with a piece of wood and corks.

Cut wood to desired size.

Arrange cork heart to get an idea of size.

Use wood glue to add wine corks stained side up for the heart center.

ta da! The wood glue worked perfectly.

When it was all said and done I used gorilla glue to adhere the wood backing to an old yoga mat.

And then came filling in the holes! I first tried cutting thin pieces of cork to lay into the gaps but it was taking forever. Mema suggested using caulk so I raided the garage and started filling!

The caulking process faded the wine stained corks so I painted them with red acrylic paint.

Cliff thinks it looks like a giant sheet cake. I joke that we'll have this mat for the next 50 years.

Hopefully you've seen our group coaching info this week and you're considering joining or if you'd be so kind pass it along to someone who you think the group would be perfect for! This group is for any woman wanting to change her relationship with food through the holidays, a time when food can get the best of us. I know I've spent my fair share of holidays past face first into one of my moms chocolate cream pies!

Today, I thought I'd spend a moment today telling you why I've teamed up with Lisa.

Lisa and I first met at Breathe. She worked at the front desk for some time and during that time we really connected. Have you ever met someone where you feel so energized after spending time with them? That's Lisa. Each time she'd come to work I'd beam and feel lifted up by her presence. It was the same for her.

We kept in touch after she left to focus on her rapidly growing food blog and got together every once in a while to dream and catch up. The conversation of how we'd collaborate has been on-going almost since day 1 of meeting each other. Lisa asked me to help style a shoot for her for a magazine feature and I thought OH HOW MUCH FUN so of course I said yes, raided my studio of anything I thought would work and headed over to her place. We spent the day shooting a fall pancake brunch (when the issue comes out I will post a little update so you can see it). I folded napkins, fussed over twine and cutting out paper leaves to tie on pears while she moved around the table shooting. It was effortless fun. We talked and talked about our lives, our marriages, our work, what would come next. The idea of group coaching was a giant AH HA that filled the room. We both found ourselves with stupid grins on our faces and a knowing that now lives inside to this day that says this is right.

Lisa and I share very similar stories of sickness and health and food had much to do with our full recoveries once we were out of the hospital (hospital food won't get anyone well). Food played the leading role in bringing us back to ourselves, leaving us feeling empowered and light.

Lisa focuses on gluten-free, making food accessible and beautiful. I focus on whole foods, the whole person and choosing foods that nourish. Our philosophies translate so easily and can be applied to anyone. The power of change in a group can be profound and you've got two passionate women ready and waiting to guide you along through the holidays and beyond. Between the two of us chances are very high that we've been where you are at some point in our journey. I am going to break it to you----you. are. not. alone. And because we have a penchant for making things beautiful the swag alone is worth the registration fee. Just saying.

Zen is Sexy

This morning I've come up with a smoothie I'm calling Blended Zen. I'm LOVING this smoothie and it's getting added to our serving often list!

When I think of Zen I think of my sisters blog and her section appropriately named Zen is Sexy (It's also HILARIOUS. If you haven't yet read her story of getting a massage in Spain, it's totally worth it).

Blended Zen

Ingredients:

1 ripe avocado

1 Cucumber

GIANT handful of Spinach

1 Banana, *Frozen

1 Pear, *Frozen

1 Cup Coconut Milk

1/2 Cup Coconut Water

1 Teaspoon Honey (if desired)

TIP

*In lieu of using ice that would water down the smoothie I use frozen fruit. Once every few weeks I clean and if necessary chop up fruit for freezing. Bananas are a staple in our freezer.

Directions:

Add spinach and coconut milk to blender. Blend until smooth. Add rest of ingredients and blend until smooth once more. Use the coconut water as needed to thin out the smoothie. I used a lot of spinach so it was really thick and the coconut water brought it to the perfect consistency.

Wahoo it's double post Friday!

Now that I'm curating my own Facebook page to promote my health coaching business I'll be posting photos of fabulous foods and what I'm eating from time-to-time. Here's my breakfast today! I added almond milk and blended er right up.

I figured why not see if I could wrap him (once I loaded this to you tube I found that lots of people wrap their cats, go figure). I think the video would be way more fun in fast forward but it's still cute. Ned is always up for anything, he's the coolest cat I know.

and he was loved until his last breath.

Today I was in the car driving and a women in big hurry nearly ran into me. She saw me at the last second and jerked her big boat of a Mercedes back into her lane. When the coast was clear she floored it and jumped in front of me. I'm always amazed at how one car length equals victory. As she accelerated she ran over a little brown Chihuahua that was crossing the 4 lanes of traffic. She kept going. As I gasped in horror he rolled so quickly towards my car, I swerved and still couldn't avoid him. I screamed out NOOOOO as I turned my car around, got out and ran to the little pup. My body was shaking uncontrollably. Tears poured from my face as I talked to the little brown love. I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry and he was already gone.

A man who lives across the street saw the whole thing unfold came out to console me. "Please don't lose it he said, it was not your fault. You are ok. You are ok. Ma'am are you ok?" I rotated the thin leather collar to find his tags, Napoleon. His name was Napoleon and his phone number was there too. The man called Napoleon's dad and told him the story. I sat on the side of the road, my face now stained with mascara, my eyes burning, my body still shaking and we waited.

When Napoleon's dad arrived I hugged him and said "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry for your loss, I'm so sorry there wasn't more I could do, I'm so very sorry" and he replied with "I'm sorry you had to experience that, thank you for waiting with him." We cried together, he picked up his dog and we parted ways.

Today I learned again as if for the first time:
There are two kinds of people in this world--- Those who stop and those who keep going.
Those who come out from their homes to lend support and those who close the curtains.
Crossing the road is dangerous.
All life is precious.
And most of all, tears are the only true universal language.

Health Update

Last week a girl friend asked my why I'm a health coach. When I answered she said my whole face glowed. This video along with a million other reasons is why.

In 2003 Cliff was told by his doctors that he'd have to be on high blood pressure medication his entire life. In 2005 I was told that I would always have to take some kind of daily fiber supplement (i.e. benefiber or metamucil). That wasn't good enough for me and it doesn't have to be good enough for you!

Update on life without meat and dairy coming next week.

I'm a sap. OR as I prefer to call it a deeply connected, sympathetic, empathetic soul who will absolutely without question sit and cry at your beautiful story or tragic rendition of a life tale. Recently, I was talking with a new friend about how he came to find his love. He'd all but given up and resigned himself to the life he'd built as an artist spending his days at home painting with his cat as his trusty sidekick. He'd decided that he WAS happy and that was that. He had me roped in already. Minus the painting part this story sounded a lot like the story of my love and what he went through on the journey to me.

This is the part where I tell you how their "meet cute" turned into a beautiful love story. Except that I don't even remember that part of the story. What I remember is the shape his face took as he described how lonely life was until they met. How he'd never found the one and refused to settle. I remember the way his eyes welled up into puddles on the verge of racing down his face. His chin quivered ever so slightly as he started to talk about that time in his life over a decade ago when things changed. When their eyes met, when the conversation began, he took a deep breath and said there you are.

There. You. Are.

That kind of knowing is a gift. That kind of love and recognition that your person is right there in front of you... it leaves me speechless with a stupid grin on my face every time.

And they did (and still do) live happily ever after.

Hello from Orlando!

I'm at the Southern Women's Show with Where Women Create. If you're ever here you must visit Cafe Tu Tu Tango. It's an amazing tapas restaurant and starving artist cafe!

Artists paint in the cafe and display their art for sale all over the walls. A henna artist will give you a henna tattoo while you wait for your table. Artisans sell their jewelry, a belly dancer dances between the tables and the small plates of food are DIVINE!

This makes me SMILE and hope it makes you smile too.

Everything is better with glitter!

GOT MILK?

Over the weekend we watched Forks over Knives and loved it so much we had Kayla and Brian watch it too. It's POWERFUL! This documentary turned my milk and meat loving man into a near Vegan in a matter of hours.

Over the coming weeks I'll be documenting the changes around here. Up first... M I L K. Cliff grew up in the era where milk was "natures perfect food." As a baby I was allergic to milk so I never developed a taste for it and don't drink it now but Cliff loves milk in his coffee!

As Lizzy says we've had a relationship in pixels. Truth is that I met Lizzy for like 5 minutes at Marmalade in Boston in 2007. TWO THOUSAND AND SEVEN! Our exchange though very brief was completely authentic and from it we became fast friends via the internet. Nearly 4 years later we finally got to spend some quality time near each other as roommates and co-workers at The Creative Connection Event last month in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Lizzy, I'll work a 16 hour day next to you anytime!

We saw the sunrise each day and took turns capturing the sky from our little nest.

At Cooks of Crocus Hill waiting for the cooking classes to begin.

With Cristina Ferrare who has written a beautiful cookbook and is a true beauty herself. I made her tomato soup with homemade croutons last week. Cliff came home and saw a pile of roma tomatoes and said "You're going to make soup from that!" My response was, "How else do you think tomato soup is made?" It was an awesome moment. In all our years neither one of us had made or had someone make us our very own tomato soup. It has always come out of a can or a box! Not any more my friends, Cristina has set us free!

This picture makes me smile and is a moment I will remember for a long time to come. Lizzy and I left swag for the housekeepers. When she saw the sign I made and that I laid the goodies out like Christmas morning she took pause, smooched me on the cheek and said, "you're a good egg."

Sweet reminders where everywhere all event from Brave Girls Club. Little truths written down as reminders for us. Each one goes right to my heart.

We went to a co-ed baby shower this week and got to do a little 1-Z painting! Had the best time creating a line for the little guy that is soon to arrive. One of the best parts of a co-ed shower is seeing what the guys come up with!

Laptop Musings

It's been a week since my laptop didn't wake up and let me tell you it's harder than I thought it would be to not have it. You know when you leave the house and you swear you've forgotten something important only to find it was the dog or your kid or something (I am mostly kidding), well that is what it feels like. Of course it's not the end of the world by any means and my shoulder is glad to have the break from schlepping my gigantic bag complete with laptop and power cord. Mostly it's just an inconvenience and of course Universal lesson on so many levels which I am negotiating quite well.

Lately the thing is miss most is my bookmarks! Laptops did for web addresses what cell phones did for phone numbers, just put them in and forget about it. So today as you click from site-to-site in your bookmarks give a little smile for the convenience of it all. :)

Ok so -not having a laptop is harder than I thought it would be! I'm saving for a new one asap. I can't help but think back to elementary school and playing Oregon Trail on clunky desk tops with the green screens and that giant blinking cursor. If you would have told me then that a new laptop would be on the list above anything else I wouldn't have believed you. Gosh it's just so amazing how dependent I am on technology.

And thanks to technology my Aunt could scan and send this to me. It's full of great info.

But if I may take it one step further to simplify things. If you do the following your entire life will change. Ready? Drum roll please....

Don't eat foods with labels. Does that send your brain in a whirl? No, I don't mean pizza or friend chicken. I mean things that have never thought of seeing the insides of a box like fresh fruits and veggies. And if you must eat from a box keep it to under 12 ingredients and keep sugar out of the top 5. Seriously, if you do nothing else but follow this you will loose weight, your cravings will change, your whole way of being will change. Powerful stuff.
